The Pearl Themes

Hey Guys! (and Girls)
Sence these blogs are for our benifit, and Mrs. Koning isn't telling us the themes in the Pearl, if anyone finds info or discoveres a theme please write about it here via comments! I think it could save us all a lot of work! Oh, and maybe include backup information and be ready to defend it! Thanks guys! Keep looking back here to see what others have found and writting whatever you've found.
Also, any information about symbols, songs, motif, ect please share also!
Basically this is a place to trade information for the benifit of everyone! So keep checking back and reporting here!
Thanks!
Koko

Major Themes are wealth can have dire consequences as it breeds greed, envy, and evil; sometimes in the possessor of the wealth and sometimes in those who surround the wealthy. Kino's discovery of the pearl should have brought him wealth and happiness; instead, it brings ill tidings and creates vast sorrow in his life.
Minor Themes are inhumanity to his fellow man throughout the novel. The wealthy people, represented by the doctor, force the poor class of people to exist on simple food and in humble dwellings. They seize the wealth for themselves and refuse kindness or charity to those in the lower class, as evidenced by the doctor's refusal to treat Coyotito. At the same time, the wealthy trample one another as they struggle to climb the ladder to wealth and success.

Holy cow, Dan! You wrote alot! I agree with you to...Like the poor seem so much better off. I think a theme could be-be content with what you have, and don't bother with the ridiculousness of riches! eg Who needs fine china teacups and silver chocolate plates anyways???? (just as long as you have the chocolate!!! jk!)
What ya think?

It's either survival of the fittest or Man vs World.

Yeah, I also think so,,,

The poor have bad luck even, I mean that is so bad!!!

How can I get a D anyway>>???<<

I think that both the fishers have things in common like things like poverty...

I mean, people with poverty are still smart, but they have bad luck...

Like the Old Man, you know yeah KOKO???

I think that the people should have better luck...

Why beleive in luck anyway???

Anyway, I think that the Pearl, will bring some bad things to the family of Kino...

What about you>>>???<<<

One definite one is racism, or social injustice. The ones that Mrs.Koning says are examples of themes all seem to have something to do with social injustice.

Replied to the COmment you gave me....

There is a theme in the Pearl that was in the Christmas Carol, so look at your notes!

i've finished the book and I can tell you that it dosen't end in Man vs himself. It's what I said, Man vs World or Poverdy vs. Greed or Wealth. I won't say the end but if you've read it you'll know what I mean.
